Brief Description

The redevelopment of Eyre Square including new pavement, hard and soft landscaping, diversion of services and some minor substructures.

Role

The design role included the design of significant service diversions to meet the requirements of the proposed development and ensure adequate access for the taking charge authorities. The role required significant liaison with the private and public service providers with significant challenges inn particular in relation to clearance and cover to services. MAL also developed the detail design required to implement the Galway traffic management study proposals together with parking, bus stop, taxi rank and traffic calming provisions. MAL also as part of the tender developed an outline traffic management proposal which the Contractor was required to implement in order to minimise disruption to the traffic flows. The works included several high quality pavement finishes which were carefully designed by MAL which took account of the Authority’s maintenance capabilities. The services provided also included the design of some minor structures both above and below ground together with assessment of existing basements and making appropriate provision in the design and tender documents.
